I've always learned best by doing. I know a little, and then I need something to happen so I learn a little more. Applying the knowledge makes it stick, makes it more valuable. Sometimes learning while doing also makes you want to pull all the hair out of your head, because things just need to get done. Today was that day. After having this site sit in a half finished state in Dreamweaver for over a month it was decided that we should get something up even if it wasn't a complete site. People were going to be starting to be given the website info so we at least need a nice hello, and a way for customer's to get in touch.
The site creation turned out to not really be my stumbling block. I had to make my first mail form and the PHP code, which I was afraid wouldn't work, but really it was just getting the server to recognize my site that ate my breakfast, and then my lunch and then helped itself to my dinner. Finally the hosting company's customer support helped me to get everything up, now I'm set, and it turns out my mail form works!
Here is what the page looks like tonight:
This is what it looked like when I woke up this morning pre-Jessica:
There are some things that I would still like to fix, and eventually when we get product pictures, and some photo for a project gallery the site will expand. The variations between browsers is making me batty, but I'm pretty happy I got it up all by myself (except the help desk guy, but I called him so that was all me as well!)
If you want to go check out the site here it is http://www.empiretruss.com/the mail form is going to my inbox for the next few days for testing purposes so feel free to test it out and send me a snarky message. If you see any errors or something looks wacky and your browser I'd love a heads up! Thanks!
